Partnership with a Legend
I've posted before that I am truly blessed to be friends with a lot of professionals in the fishing world. One of my best friends is Flip Pallot. Flip was my inspiration, decades ago, to start fly fishing and dreaming of becoming a fishing guide. As fate would have it, I met him, we became friends, and we fish together on a regular basis.
Over the years, I have learned a lot from Flip. I've improved my casting, my fish fighting techniques, learned new ways to stalk a fish, and we have designed countless flies together. The conversations we've had range from serious conservation issues to downright foolishness about a myriad of topics. Each and every trip has been memorable; whether we caught a single fish or not.
I have been asked numerous times what it is like to fish with him, or any of the other "celebrity" people I have had the opportunity to fish with. Well, rest assured that it is always a great time. It is a day full of learning, laughter, story telling, and sharing a skiff with someone who loves the outdoors as much as I do. It's also a day to realize that everyone, no matter who they are, can be human on the bow of a boat. Without going into specifics, let's just say that I have seen more than my fair share of snafus from everyone on the bow. I've also been the cause of my own snafus in front of these people; recently I fell of the bow while Flip was poling me. Yeah, we shared a chuckle over that one and I was thankful there wasn't a video camera rolling! But these days are some of the greatest days on the water. I've been able to ask questions about every aspect of fly fishing from the guys who helped develop fly fishing. You just cannot ask for a better opportunity.
