Seatrout on Fly with Captain John Tarr

I guess you could say fishing was born into my blood; coming from my family there really wasn’t an option.  My grandfather, Bill McEwen, was the originator of Strike King Lures, and an avid bass fishing enthusiast.  Since he helped raise me, his love of fishing was something he shared with me and I cherished every moment.  I spent each chance I could on the boat with him, chasing bream, crappie and bass.  Then, as fate would have it, we moved to Florida.  Here I was introduced to saltwater fishing.  Redfish, seatrout, snook and more replaced my beloved bass and introduced me to a whole new world.

This new world was full of mystery and beauty.  To make it even better, my grandfather made sure I had my own boat and motor.  I was allowed to follow him and then venture off to explore nearby areas.  After a while, I was cut loose and allowed my own adventures. These adventures led me to pick up my knowledge of fishing.  I started with conventional gear, fell in love with fly fishing, and have taken up bowfishing for certain fish.  My adventures have led to lifelong friendships, television opportunities, speaking engagements, teaching programs, and even writing.  More importantly, my adventures have allowed me opportunities to befriend and learn from some of the finest anglers in history: Lefty Kreh, Flip Pallot, Chico Fernandez, and more.  These opportunities have blessed me and given me friendships I never thought I would have.

Over the last 35 years here, my careers have changed, my boat has changed and my tackle has changed; however, my love of the outdoors has never changed.  It would be my pleasure to share this love with you, to help make your adventure come true, and to provide you with a lifetime memory of fun and relaxation.

Why should you choose my service?  When I get asked this, my answer is simple: my dedication to making sure you have the very best experience you can.  This isn't a hobby for me, it isn't a part-time job I do to make extra money.  It is a passion that I have that drives me every day.  It is a part of my very life being, a part of my soul and something I have spent a lifetime trying to master.  Fly fishing and light tackle fishing are not just some "cool, new thing" in my life; they are a large cog in my life.  I give it my all, consistently learning and adapting.  That's why my clients choose me and keep coming back.
